Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Wednesday expressed confidence that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would perform strongly in the forthcoming elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
Speaking to reporters after a roadshow at Khumulwng, the TTAADC headquarters, Saha said the programme was organised with a focus on empowerment of tribal communities and development of the state. He said the party was receiving encouraging responses from different parts of the state and expressed confidence of securing a majority in the council.
Saha said the present condition of governance in the ADC was not satisfactory and added that change would be possible if the BJP secured a mandate in the upcoming polls. He also said the party expected improved results in the Village Committee elections.
Responding to allegations of withholding salaries of TTAADC staff ahead of Holi, the chief minister said there had been a technical issue which was resolved and funds were subsequently disbursed. He said he had directed officials to address the matter immediately after it was brought to his notice.
Saha further said the government’s decision to enhance stipends for hostel inmates under the Tribal Welfare department would entail an additional financial burden of around Rs 30 crore.
Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, who was present at the event, said the party had strengthened its organisational base in ADC areas and was expecting favourable results in the polls.
