Moral degradation in the state seem to be reaching new depths in Tripura particularly in times of festivals with unruly boys and girls and even married men and women taking part in orgies of drinking and intimate interactions . So far this was limited to wild dancing on streets on any given occasions like immersion ceremonies , taking home of images of deities or in political programmes of victories in elections . Since at least the post-poll processions of victory in elections in the year 2008 men and women wildly dancing away to glory in drunken conditions has become quite familiar. In many of the religious ceremonies like immersion drunken women are seen dancing wildly in drunken condition, as if they have no guardians or, even if they have guardians, the latter are mute spectators.
Moral policing anywhere is not desirable but excesses of men and women intimately interacting together in groups over drinking session always set a bad example of licentious behaviour , extremely harmful to society and familial well being . This is exactly what was noticed today during the ‘Holi’ celebration . A number of clubs in the heart of town , specially in Krishna Nagar and Pragati road area a number of clubs have put up tents and made seating arrangements so that boys and girls and men and women can enter and sit there for celebration of Holi or festival of colours over drinking session. The social organisation authorities have also sold tickets at the rate of Rs 100.00 each and what happens in such drinking sessions at the visitors cost is well known already.
A number of club authorities claimed that such programmes are nothing new as earlier such programmes happened in Swami Vibekananda ground, Childrens park and Netaji Subhas ground. But whats happens in such joint gatherings over and above mutual colour pasting and drinking liquor is well known and many guardians and sensible people have sharply criticised this. But the government is silent and presides over the continuing moral decadence in society , reminiscent of what happened to the people of Dwaraka of Sri Krishnna before the people there started fighting and killing themselves openly over drinking sessions before the very eyes of Lord Krishna . The curse of ‘Mahasati’ Gandhari on Lord Krishna after the ‘Kurukshetra’ war came true and it is seemingly on the point of being repeated here also .
