Tripura steps up pre-budget consultations ahead of Assembly session

With the Budget Session of the Tripura Legislative Assembly set to begin on March 13, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Monday chaired a series of high-level meetings with cabinet colleagues and senior bureaucrats to firm up allocations for the 2026–27 financial year.According to official sources, the deliberations centred on reviewing the Revised Estimates for 2025–26 and scrutinising the proposed Budget Estimates for 2026–27, including projected revenue, expenditure commitments and sector-wise fund requirements.Singha Roy held detailed discussions with Public Works Department Secretary Kiran Gitte, who also handles Health and Family Welfare, Industries and Commerce, and Good Governance, and serves as CEO of the Tripura Institution for Transformation. Senior departmental officials participated in the review meetings, which focused on aligning spending priorities with ongoing infrastructure and social sector commitments.Separate consultations were conducted with Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma to assess industrial growth projections and allocation requirements; Minister of State for General Administration (Printing and Stationery) and Science, Technology and Environment Animesh Debbarma on revenue planning and expenditure management; and Tribal Welfare and Minority Welfare Minister Sukla Charan Noatia to review welfare outlays and development schemes.

The Finance Minister also met Higher Education, Panchayat and General Administration (Political) Minister Kishor Barman; Youth Affairs and Sports, Social Affairs and Social Education and Labour Minister Tinku Roy; Tribal Welfare, Handloom, Handicrafts and Sericulture and Statistics Minister Bikash Debbarma; and Transport, Tourism, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury to discuss departmental demands and fiscal rationalisation.The exercise comes amid broader efforts by the Tripura government to balance developmental spending with fiscal discipline. The upcoming budget is expected to outline the state’s strategy on infrastructure expansion, tribal welfare, employment generation and revenue mobilisation in the 2026–27 fiscal year.The Budget will be presented in the Tripura Legislative Assembly during the session commencing March 13.
