A family from the Ramnagar area of Agartala on Sunday alleged police inaction against an alleged land mafia group despite lodging a formal complaint.
The family members visited the local police station expressing concern that no action had been taken against five persons accused of assault and extortion.
A woman from the family alleged that her son was attacked on February 12 after he refused to meet what she described as undue demands. “He was called for a meeting and was assaulted when he reached the spot. I rushed there on hearing about the incident and was also injured while trying to intervene,” she claimed.
The injured youth was initially admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and later shifted to Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital for treatment. The family alleged that he is yet to recover fully from the physical and psychological impact of the incident.
The woman named five persons, including Bikash Ghosh, Tapu Ghosh and Sukanta Debnath along with his two sons, accusing them of extortion and land grabbing. She further alleged that despite filing a complaint, no visible action had been taken, raising concerns about alleged collusion.
Police officials were not immediately available for comment.
