Youth sentenced to three years jail and fined Rs 10 thousand for molestation of minor under POCSO act

In a crucial judgment upholding the dignity of woman , Sanjay Bhattacharjee, judge of the special POCSO court in Sonamuram sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment a youth on charge of molestation of a minor girl. A fine of Rs 10 thousand was also imposed on the offender on the condition that in the event of default in payment the three years jail term will increase by three more moths.

Giving details sources from Sonamura court said that Dilip Debnath alias Rakesh (32), a resident of Jumerdhepa village under Melaghar police station, had molested a minor girl in his village in December 2024 , taking advantage of the absence of her parents from home. The girl had confided this to her parents who filed a case with the Melaghar police station and provisions of the draconian POCSO act was invoked by police. The youth Dilip Debnath alias Rakesh was arrested within a few days and chargesheet was filed .

The case dragged on for several months in the special POCSO court presided by judge Sanjay Bhattacharjee but finally the crime was proved beyond any reasonable doubt. Finally the judge Sanjay Bhattacharjee pronounced the sentencing yesterday . The parents and relatives of the molested girl expressed their satisfaction over the sentencing.
