Tripura’s Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy today has strongly refuted a recent media report alleging large-scale financial irregularities in the utilization of 15th Finance Commission funds, terming the claims completely baseless, misleading, and politically motivated.
The clarification comes in response to a report that claimed Rs.153.69 crore had been misappropriated due to administrative irregularities in the implementation of Finance Commission grants.
Addressing the media, the Finance Minister in his facebook page said, “The report is factually incorrect and intended to create confusion among the public. There has been no misappropriation of funds. Every rupee received under the 15th Finance Commission is properly accounted for.
Singha Roy clarified that during the entire award period of the 15th Finance Commission, Tripura was allocated a total of Rs.937 crore.
“Out of this total allocation, Rs. 936.31 crore has already been received by the State Government, which amounts to 99.93 percent of the sanctioned funds. The remaining portion is expected to be released within the current financial year,” he stated.
He emphasized that the figures being circulated in the misleading report were either misinterpreted or deliberately distorted.
Referring to data available on the e-Gram Swaraj portal, the Minister explained that approximately Rs.29 crore of the received funds is currently unspent.
“This amount is not lost or misused. It is part of ongoing development works and will be fully utilized within this financial year as per approved guidelines,” he said.
Singha Roy further added, “There has been no incident of fund diversion or financial misconduct. The State Government maintains strict financial discipline and transparency in implementing centrally sponsored and Finance Commission backed schemes.”
The Finance Minister accused certain sections of the media ( Not Tripurainfo. Com) of spreading misinformation without verifying official data.
“Our government is committed to transparency, accountability, and development. We will not allow false narratives to undermine the progress Tripura is making,” he asserted.
He urged media organizations to verify facts with the concerned departments before publishing reports that may create unnecessary panic or confusion among citizens.
