MMD College, Sabroom commemorate National Science Day today in advance

On the occasion of National Science Day, Michael Madhusudhan Dutta(MMD) College, Sabroom, in association with PM Shri Sabroom Girls' H.S. School organized a special programme today to memorialize the importance of the day. The event commenced at 11:30 AM in the school premises. Dr. Anupam Guha, Principal, MMD College, along with teachers and students of the school attended the celebration. The event was presided over by Ranjan Debnath, Assistant Head Master of the school.
This year's theme for National Science Day is "Women in Science: Catalysts of a Developed India." Since 1987, February 28th has been observed annually as National Science Day. On this day in 1928, the ground breaking discovery of Nobel laureate Indian scientist C.V. Raman, known as the "Raman Effect," was publicly announced. In 1930, he became the second Indian to be honoured with the Nobel Prize. His achievement instilled confidence among Indians and inspired scientific pursuits.
In the realm of science, especially for women, there is immense potential to contribute knowledge, talent, and innovation. Keeping this in mind, every year on February 28th, the National Science Day is celebrated to promote nation-building and elevate India’s position in the global arena. The speakers at the program highlighted these themes.
Dr. Anupam Guha emphasized the theme "Women in Science: Catalysts of a Developed India." He spoke about the unprecedented progress in modern technology and urged everyone to foster rational thinking and awareness among the public. He asserted that the purpose of celebrating this day in advance through the college’s initiative is to inspire as many young people as possible to develop a scientific mindset. He also called upon all female students to actively participate in the celebration of National Science Day every year.
