Passenger vehicle hizacked and passengers robbed close to VIP road

The VIP road between Agartala town and the MBB airport is fast turning out to be a dangerous place in the wake of a series of crimes committed on it by organised gangs over the past few months. An Echo passenger vehicle from Sonamura carrying passengers was subjected to hizacking and robbery by a gang of unknown miscreants yesterday .

Police sources said that the Echo vehicle from Sonamura had come to the airport to pick passengers who had booked it earlier from outside the state. As the vehicle was proceeding towards Agartala it was stopped near Kathaltali area by a gang of miscreants brandishing fire-arms. The miscreants forcibly took the four passengers as well as the driver to a desolate jungle area nearby and robbed them of money and other valuable possessions besides beating them up.

After being released the driver reached the Airport police station and both himself as well as the passengers filed a complaint accusing the unknown miscreants of physical assault and robbery. Sources said that the newly posted OC of Airport police station Sushanta Deb assured the driver and his passengers that he would handle the matter personally and recover the stolen money and valuables besides bringing the guilty miscreants to justice.
