In a reprehensible incident the residence of the local CPI (M) leader Raman Deb in Mohanpur under Sidhai police station was attacked and vandalised by a gang of local BJP miscreants yesterday in the morning. The attack took place allegedly because Raman Deb had defied a longstanding ban on him from taking part in political activism and organised a function in his residence on February 21 to celebrate the international language day.

Sources from Mohanpur said that the BJP miscreants identified as Nirmal Deb alias Mahadeb Deb, Dilip Das alias Indra and Shankar Deb had led a gang of their miscreant followers and at first broken the CCTV cameras within Raman Deb’s house yesterday in the morning and then vandalised the entire house by breaking furnitures , TV set and fridge etc . At the sight of the miscreant gang menacingly approaching his house Raman Deb had fled home and managed to save his life but the miscreants confined all his family members in a room and then went on a rampage.

After being informed a police team arrived from the Sidhai police station but could do precious little and some of the police personnel were also pushed and jostled around by the BJP miscreants. The Mohanpur local committee and the west district committee of the CPI (M) condemned the attack, alleging that an undeclared ban has been imposed on CPI (M) from all political activism. Later in the evening yesterday former CPI (M) MLA from Simna Pranab Debbarma and west district CPI (M) leader and former MLA Ratan Das met the SP (west) Namit Pathak and pressed for security of local CPI (M) leader Raman Deb in Mohanpur and action against the miscreants. The SP is said to have assured Ratan Das and Pranab Debbarma that he would look into the matter and take appropriate action.
