No Hearing, Direct Encounter, Former MP Pratima Bhowmik Demands Strictest Action in Gurugram Assault Case

A shocking case of alleged brutal assault on a young woman from Tripura in Gurugram, Haryana, has triggered intense public outrage, political reactions, and protests both in the national capital region and the northeastern state.
Former Tripura MP and ex-Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik strongly reacted to the incident, stating that there should be no hearing, direct encounter for the accused. She argued that instead of wasting time in prolonged court proceedings, the accused should face the strictest possible action. She also urged the Uttar Pradesh administration not to allow the accused any opportunity to secure release from jail under any circumstances.
Pratima Bhoumik visited Gurugram and met the victim’s mother. Speaking to the media, she said the young woman remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), battling severe injuries.
According to the victim’s mother, the horrifying ordeal came to light on February 16 at around 10 PM, when her daughter made a desperate phone call.
"My daughter called me and said she did not have time and that she would be killed. She told me a man named Shivam had been assaulting her for the last three days,” the mother alleged.
She further claimed that the accused had locked her daughter inside a room for three days in Gurugram. During that period, he allegedly Physically assaulted her repeatedly.
The mother stated that her daughter was burned multiple times and sustained serious wounds, prompting immediate hospitalization.
Police in Gurugram reportedly registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and arrested the accused following the complaint. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation is ongoing, including examination of the circumstances surrounding the alleged confinement and assault.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital ICU. Detailed medical reports are awaited.
The incident has sparked anger among members of the Tripura community residing in Delhi and other parts of northern India. A group of protests yesterday organized a protest rally demanding strict and speedy punishment for the accused
