Tension escalated in Tripura’s Ramchandra Ghat constituency after senior BJP leader Bikash Debbarma today openly challenged Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma following an alleged obstruction of a proposed bike rally yesterday.
According to Bikash Debbarma, the controversy began yesterday when he was reportedly prevented from organizing a bike rally at Baijal Bari under the Ramchandra Ghat Assembly constituency. He alleged that the obstruction was created at the instance of Tipra Motha MLA Ranjit Debbarma.
Expressing strong resentment over the incident, Bikash Debbarma on Sunday publicly declared that he would not allow Ranjit Debbarma to be elected again from the Ramchandra Ghat seat in the 2028 Assembly elections. He stated that the people of the constituency would give a befitting reply.
Bikash Debbarma further alleged that Ranjit Debbarma had been associated with the Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) during earlier years and claimed that during that period many people in Tripura were victims of violence. He accused the MLA of now posing as a saint and speaking about democracy despite his past.
The BJP leader also announced that he would soon organize a large-scale bike rally in Ramchandra Ghat despite the alleged obstruction. He asserted that democratic political activities cannot be suppressed.
In a sharp political remark, Bikash Debbarma said that if Tipra Motha believes the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a bad party, then the regional party should reconsider its alliance and sever ties with the BJP instead of creating friction on the ground.
The development has added a new dimension to the political atmosphere in the Ramchandra Ghat constituency, with both BJP and Tipra Motha workers closely watching the unfolding situation. No official reaction from MLA Ranjit Debbarma had been reported at the time of filing this report.
