Historic Launch of Tripura State Games 2026 by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha at Badharghat State Sports Complex

In a landmark moment for sports in the state, the Chief Minister of Tripura, Manik Saha, today inaugurated the first-ever Tripura State Games 2026, organized by the Tripura Olympic Association. The grand opening ceremony was held at the Dasharath Deb State Sports Complex, Badharghat, marking a historic chapter in the sporting journey of Tripura.
The three-day mega sporting event, commencing on February 22 and continuing till February 24, 2026, features competitions in 18 disciplines across multiple venues in the state, with participation from both male and female athletes representing various districts.
Chief Minister’s Address
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha highlighted that during the previous Left Front regime, insufficient attention was given to building playgrounds in remote areas or identifying and nurturing talents from marginal regions to represent the state and nation.
He described the launch of the Tripura State Games as a historic first in the state's history, emphasizing that the initiative would create a structured platform to identify talented athletes from the remotest villages and provide them opportunities to compete at state and national levels. He extended heartfelt gratitude to the Tripura Olympic Association for taking this pioneering initiative.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy as Guest of Honour. Other distinguished attendees included:

Dharmanagar (North Tripura): Kho Kho
Udaipur (Gomati District): Kabaddi
Belonia (South Tripura): Football
Badharghat, Agartala: Athletics, Hockey, Handball, Volleyball
NSRTC Complex, Agartala: Judo, Table Tennis, Boxing, Basketball, Badminton
Rashanbagan: Weightlifting
MBB College Lake, Agartala: Triathlon
Assam Rifles Ground: Squash
Shalbagan BSF Camp: Golf.
The grand opening ceremony at 1 PM featured vibrant cultural performances celebrating Tripura’s rich heritage, adding color and enthusiasm to the sporting extravaganza.
Organising Secretary Sujit Ray appealed to sports lovers across the state to attend the various sports events and competitions to encourage the athletes and make the event a grand success.
