The president of Tripura Working Journalist Association (TWJA) Bijay Paul who is also a veteran journalist and incumbent news editor of popular Bengali daily ‘Syandan Patrika’ has filed a criminal defamation case against ‘Youtuber’ Prasenjit Bhattacharjee in a magistrate’s court at Agartala. The case was filed by his lawyer on February 20 and will be taken up for issuing notices to the respondent soon .
Speaking on the case Bijay Paul said that he was left with no other alternative but to seek legal dress against the campaign of vilification launched against him by Prasenjit Bhattacharjee ever since the end of the two-day conference of the Association . “In his ‘Youtube’ channel he charged me with all kinds of false and fabricated offences like bribe-taking etc , so I decided to protest ; now the matter is with court and it will decide the Issue” said Bijay Paul.
Meanwhile, it is reliably learned that the vilification campaign against veteran journalist Bijay Paul had been sparked by his attribution of a dispute involving two editors and deputy speaker Ram Prasad Paul and ‘Tipra Motha’ MLA Ranjit Debbarma to ‘personal matters’. The ‘Youtuber’ Prasenjit Bhattacharjee who is believed to owe allegiance to the two editors had launched his campaign with mala fide intention to tarnish the image of Bijay Paul with false and cooked up charges, sources , aware of the matter, added.
