In a dramatic late-night operation, Tripura Police rescued two employees of Oil India Limited within three hours of their abduction from a drilling centre in Gomati district.
According to an official statement shared on Facebook by the Gomati District Police, at approximately 10:00 PM on February 21, 2026, information was received that around 10–12 unidentified miscreants had forcibly entered the Oil India Drilling Centre at Devtamura under Silachari Police Station in Gomati district and abducted two employees.
The abducted individuals have been identified as Engineer BC Joshi and team member Amit Kumar. The incident reportedly took place in the Ailmara area under Silachari on Saturday evening, triggering widespread concern and tension in the locality.
Upon receiving the information, Tripura Police launched a swift and coordinated operation. Police personnel from Gomati and South Tripura districts were mobilized immediately. Intensive naka checking, search and combing operations were conducted, and intelligence sources were activated under the close supervision of senior officers.
As a result of the rapid response, the police successfully traced and recovered both victims safely and unharmed at approximately 1:10 AM on February 22, 2026, within about three hours of the incident being reported.
A specific case has been registered, and a detailed investigation is currently underway.
Police sources indicated that no militant organization was involved in the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the abduction was carried out by local miscreants allegedly with the intent of extorting money.
Another source claimed that two individuals from the area, one allegedly linked to Tipra Motha and another reportedly associated with the BJP, may have been involved in demanding money from Oil India Limited personnel. They are also accused of seeking payments in the name of supplying security personnel to various camps, with allegations of irregularities in such arrangements. It is further learned that there had been prior disputes between certain Oil India officials and these individuals.
However, police officials have described the matter as highly sensitive and have refrained from confirming any specific names at this stage. Authorities are investigating whether the abduction is connected to alleged financial disputes related to security manpower supply.
Following intense police pressure and search operations, the miscreants reportedly abandoned the victims at Baikhora before fleeing the area. The prompt and coordinated action by law enforcement agencies is being widely appreciated for ensuring the safe recovery of the abducted employees without any physical harm.
The incident created panic and heightened tension in the Devtamura–Silachari region, but normalcy began to return after confirmation of the victims safe rescue.
Further investigation is ongoing, and police have assured that strict legal action will be taken against those involved.
