The bus service between Agartala, Dhaka and Kolkata is likely to resume on February 21 after remaining suspended for over a year, sources said on Thursday.

Sources said visa services, which were suspended in December 2025 following deterioration in bilateral ties after the ouster of former Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina, are also expected to resume.

According to officials, a bus will depart for Dhaka from the premises of the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) on Saturday morning. The cross-border service had earlier been briefly suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic and was resumed in June 2022.

The service was again halted after a bus operated by a local travel agency met with an accident in Bangladesh and was subsequently attacked by a mob, sources said. In view of safety concerns for Indian passengers and the prevailing situation in the neighbouring country at the time, authorities decided to suspend operations.

With a newly elected government assuming office in Bangladesh and the situation reported to have stabilised, authorities have now decided to restart the service, sources added.

The bus link connects Tripura with Kolkata via Dhaka and is considered an important route for passengers travelling between the northeastern state and eastern India through Bangladesh territory.
