Tension gripped parts of the capital city after several posters featuring Dr. Manik Saha were allegedly torn and defaced at the high-security Circuit House area of Agartala late last night, just hours ahead of the scheduled visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Tripura.

The posters, which carried welcome messages for Amit Shah’s arrival, prominently displayed images of the Chief Minister along with other senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. According to local sources, unidentified miscreants allegedly tore and distorted multiple posters bearing Dr. Saha’s photograph. The incident has sparked sharp reactions among supporters of the Chief Minister and local BJP workers.

The development comes in the backdrop of a party programme held yesterday at Bhagat Singh Yuva Awas in Agartala, organised by the 6-Agartala Assembly Mandal Committee. The event was attended by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, BJP State President Rajib Bhattacharjee, and the concerned Mandal President.

However, political circles are abuzz with reports of internal discord during the programme. A senior BJP leader from the area, reportedly Papiya Dutta, is said to have walked out of the event shortly after it began, allegedly due to differences with the Mandal leadership. She is believed to have boycotted the meeting along with her supporters.

Though there is no official confirmation linking the two developments, speculation has intensified that the late-night vandalism may be connected to the internal rift that surfaced during the programme.

What has further fuelled controversy is the fact that while the posters featuring Dr. Manik Saha were allegedly torn, images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, displayed in the same frames, were reportedly left untouched.

This selective targeting has led many BJP supporters in the area to question whether the act was deliberate and politically motivated.

The incident occurred in the Circuit House zone, considered a high-security area, especially ahead of a VVIP visit. Local BJP supporters have raised serious concerns over the apparent lapse in police patrolling, particularly questioning the role of NCC Police Station in ensuring security.

“Where was the night patrol? How could such an incident happen in a high-security zone just before the Union Home Minister’s visit?” questioned several local party workers.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the police or the state BJP leadership regarding the vandalism. It remains unclear who is behind the act and whether it was intended to malign any individual or faction within the party.

The incident has nevertheless triggered intense debate within political circles in Agartala, with many viewing it as a reflection of simmering internal tensions surfacing at a sensitive time.

With Amit Shah’s visit underway, all eyes are now on how the party leadership and law enforcement agencies respond to the controversy.
