Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy has yesterday laid special emphasis on safeguarding women’s dignity and ensuring a safe, discriminatio, free working environment, underscoring the importance of the upgraded SHe-Box (Sexual Harassment Electronic Box) portal as a vital digital mechanism to address workplace harassment.

Speaking at a workshop on the implementation of the portal, the Minister said that the SHe-Box platform, developed by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, serves as a centralized digital platform for registering complaints of sexual harassment at the workplace under the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act (POSH Act, 2013).

He informed that the recently upgraded portal now features a more user-friendly interface and enhanced monitoring mechanisms, enabling authorities to track complaints from both organized and unorganized sectors more effectively.

The Minister stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, several initiatives have been undertaken to empower women and promote their economic self-reliance. In Tripura, through the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission, approximately Rs. 2,100 crore has been sanctioned in recent years to enhance skill development and training opportunities for women, enabling them to secure sustainable livelihoods.

He also referred to the ‘She-Marts’ initiative announced in the Union Budget 2026–27. The project aims to allow rural women’s Self-Help Groups to manage community-based retail outlets where handicrafts, agricultural produce, and processed food products can be sold directly to consumers. Building upon the success of the ‘Lakhpati Didi’ programme, the initiative targets ensuring an annual income of at least Rs. 1 lakh for participating women.

During the workshop at Pragya Bhavan, nodal officers, human resource professionals, and members of Internal Complaints Committees from various institutions were provided hands-on training on complaint registration and tracking through the SHe-Box portal. The session also covered the legal obligations of establishments with 10 or more employees, employer responsibilities, and procedures for redressal of sexual harassment complaints.

Minister Tinku Roy emphasized that effective implementation of the law and structured training programmes are crucial to building fear-free and bias-free workplaces.

The event was attended by Jharna Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura Women Commission, Special Secretary Tapan Kumar Das, along with other senior officials.

Officials noted that such workshops not only strengthen legal awareness but also reinforce the broader goal of social and economic empowerment of women across the state.
