Ceaseless religious conflict across the world over the past two thousand years with a brief interregnum of 150 years (1848-1991) when the flawed and superficial Marxist ideology held out an alternative seems to have rekindled universal interest in the world’s most antiquated and largest compendium of literature- the hoary Vedas of the Hindus. Ever since the savage Islamist marauding and depredation had started pulverising the Indian subcontinent from the late 10th century, followed by the British colonial rule of all-round destruction for 190 years (1757-1947) the universal interest in the four Vedas (Rig, Saam, Yajur and Atharva) containing ancient Hindu saintly wisdom on science, mathematics, health science, world of nature, profound philosophy and spiritualism seemed to have faded. The Anglicised and dynastic leadership of the country in the post-independence era had contributed no less to this decline for very ignoble reasons like building and nurturing vote-banks.

But the interest in Hindu Vedic wisdom across the world seems to have been stimulated of late by the plethora of problems faced by the entire humanity except the unreformed and blood-thirsty section in the generic Abrahamic faith systems. This is evident from the plethora of conferences, seminars and conclaves on Vedas being held in nooks and corners of India and abroad.

As part of this process a three-day regional Vedic conference-from February 17-19th-was inaugurated yesterday in the central Vedic university, Eklavay campus at Agartala. This significant conference based on the model of exchange of knowledge and interpretations of the Vedas is being jointly organised by the central Sanskrit University , Eklavya campus , Agartala, Maharshi Sandipani Rashtiya Vedavidya Pratishthan , Ujjain and Bholananda Veda Vidyalaya, Agartala. The programme was ceremonially inaugurate at 11-00 AM yesterday with the chanting of ‘Mantras’ by Vedic scholars, followed by singing in chorus of the national anthem and kulageet.

While the programme began with the welcome address delivered by Dr Prakash Ranjan Mishra , co-ordinator of the Sanskrit university of Tripura, eminent scholars on Sanskrit and Vedas like Professor Kameshwar Shukla , HOD (Sanskrit) Guwahati university , Professor Virupash V. Jaddilal of Sandipani university and Professor Makhlesh Kumar , director of Tripura’s central Sanskrit university, delivered speeches on the importance and relevance of Vedic literature , science and philosophy. Dr Asish Mishra , assistant professor in the Tripura Sanskrit university , delivered the final address yesterday as part of the vote of thanks. The three day conference will end tomorrow.
