CM Dr. Manik Saha Issues Strong Warning Against Misconduct Toward Media, Says Government Stands Firmly With Journalists

At a public meeting at Demdum in Fatikroy, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha delivered a clear and strong message regarding the recent controversy involving journalists and elected representatives in Tripura. The Chief Minister stated that any attempt to insult, harass, or intimidate the media by misusing political power or official position will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

His remarks yesterday come amid rising tensions following a dispute between two journalists and two Members of the Tripura Legislative Assembly.

Notably, Recently, a sharp confrontation reportedly emerged between two journalists Sanit Debroy and Pranab Sarkar and MLAs Ramprasad Paul and Ranjit Debbarma, leading to a highly charged atmosphere in the state capital Agartala.

The situation intensified as both sides organized meetings and counter-meetings, exchanging allegations and criticism publicly. This political and media confrontation created concern over the deterioration of the normal civic environment.

In response to the escalating tensions, police complaints and counter-complaints have been lodged by both parties.

A delegation of journalists submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, and meet Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar, IPS demanding strong action and reportedly seeking the removal of the two MLAs involved in the controversy.

The issue has drawn widespread public attention in Tripura, with media circles expressing concern over respect for press freedom and professional dignity.

Addressing the situation, the Chief Minister emphasized that the present Tripura government considers itself journalist-friendly. He stated clearly that No one should misuse their chair or position of power to behave improperly with journalists.

According to the Chief Minister, the state government views journalists as an important part of democratic society and any anti-journalist behavior will not be tolerated.

He further added that the government aims to be friendly toward all sections of society, including the media, and that false allegations and the use of abusive language against journalists cannot be accepted.

Without mentioning names directly, the Chief Minister’s remarks were widely interpreted as a strong message aimed at MLA Ranjit Debbarma and Deputy Speaker Ramprasad Paul, urging restraint and respectful conduct toward media professionals.

The Chief Minister’s intervention is being seen as an effort to defuse tensions and restore normalcy following the escalation between media representatives and political figures. Observers note that the statement reinforces the government’s stance on maintaining democratic values, where media freedom and respectful discourse are essential.
