A financial literacy awareness camp was organised today at Barobhaiya under the Money Wise Project of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) with the objective of promoting financial awareness and encouraging safe banking practices among personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF). The programme was organised by the Bagma Agri Producer Company Limited (BAPCL) with financial support from RBI. More than 50 BSF personnel participated in the camp held at the auditorium in Barobhaiya.

The main focus of the programme was to educate participants about savings, digital transactions, and protection against financial fraud in the modern financial system. Khokan Dey, District Development Officer of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for South and Gomati districts, attended the programme and spoke on the importance of financial discipline and long-term savings. He emphasised that proper financial planning and awareness can help individuals and families achieve economic security and avoid unnecessary financial stress.

Pradip Debnath, Monitoring Officer has addressed the gathering on issues related to financial frauds and digital banking risks. Pradip Debnath elaborately explained various cases of fraud in the digital era, including phishing calls, fake messages, misleading links, and fraudulent schemes targeting unsuspecting customers. He advised BSF personnel to remain cautious while using UPI and mobile banking services and urged them not to share sensitive information such as OTPs, PINs, or account details with unknown callers.

Biplab Ghosh, Centre Manager of Tepaniya CFL Centre, highlighted the role of continuous financial education in building confidence among users of banking services. He noted that awareness programmes such as this play a vital role in strengthening financial inclusion and ensuring that people are able to use banking facilities safely and effectively.

Kiran Bhowmik, PhD Scholar in the Department of Economics, former Research Associate of the 16th Finance Commission in Tripura and Advisor of BAPCL, discussed the activities of BAPCL and explained how farmer producer organisations contribute to local economic development and financial empowerment.

An interactive session was also held where BSF personnel shared their queries and experiences related to banking, insurance, and digital transactions. Informative leaflets on financial literacy topics were distributed among the participants to reinforce the key messages of the programme.

The organisers stated that such camps are crucial to protect security personnel from financial fraud and to encourage responsible financial behaviour. The programme concluded with a call to strengthen financial literacy initiatives and to promote safe and informed use of financial services across all sections of society.
