The union home minister and BJP strongman Amit Shah is tentatively scheduled to visit the state on February 20th , Friday, to take stock of the internal situation in the state, specially in the context of the upcoming election to the ADC in April and growing discord between the BJP and its alliance partner, the ‘Tipra Motha’ party. There is no confirmation of Shah’s visit and its schedule but the administration is making preparation to ensure a trouble-free visit of the powerful union home minister. Official sources said that detailed schedule of the visit is yet to reach them but preparation is being taken for the expectedly daylong visit.

Sources in the BJP said that if the visit finally materialises Amit Shah is likely to hold a discussion with the senior party leaders about the choice of the next state president of the party here . In spite of the formal anointment of Bihar minister Nitin Nabin as the national president no decision has so far been taken on the post of state president in Tripura. This issue may come up in the discussion that the union home minister is expected to have with state leaders including chief minister Dr Manik Saha. Apart from this, the recent strain in relation between the BJP and its coalition partner ‘Tipra Motha’ may also come up for discussion in a meeting that the union home minister is likely to have with the ‘Motha’ supremo Pradyot Kishore and his lieutenants in the context of upcoming election to the ADC within two month along with other issues like the demand for Roman script for the tribal ‘Kokborok’ language. But nothing is clear as yet.

On the administrative side the issue of border security and recent spurt in the activities of suspected militants in bordering areas of Kanchanpur subdivision is likely to be discussed in the home minister’s discussion with senior civil and police officials as well as ministers. Sources said that heightened activities of suspected militants in the remote areas of Kanchanpur subdivision bordering Bangladesh like extortion drive from contractors engaged in construction work and from businessmen have been reported, raising concerns but whether any organised militant outfit with a political goal is behind this is not yet clear . But the matter may come up for discussion that the union home minister may have with police and other security officials, sources added.
