The Agartala Press Club has strongly condemned what it describes as a worrying trend of increasing attacks and intimidation targeting journalists and editors in Tripura. In an official press statement issued on Saturday, the Press Club expressed deep concern over recent incidents and demanded immediate intervention from the authorities.

According to the statement, a group of youths allegedly created a disturbance in front of the residence of Shanit Deb Roy, editor of the Ajker Fariyad newspaper, located at Milan Sangha in Agartala. The commotion reportedly continued for a prolonged period, creating an atmosphere of tension in the area.

The Press Club termed the incident unfortunate and unacceptable,

emphasizing that repeated attempts to intimidate members of the media pose a serious threat to press freedom and democratic values. The organization strongly criticized the incident and called it an act that undermines the safety and independence of journalists working in the state.

In its appeal, the Agartala Press Club urged the Chief Minister and the state police administration to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and take strict legal action against those responsible at the earliest.
