In a significant administrative reform aimed at strengthening digital governance and improving technological capacity across government departments, the Tripura government has officially launched a dedicated Information Technology (IT) Cadre Service. The decision, approved by the state cabinet, marks the first structured effort to create a specialized technical workforce within the government system.
Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat, Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury announced that a total of 330 posts have been created under the newly formed IT cadre. Of these, 220 posts of Assistant Technical Officer (ATO) will be filled through direct recruitment by the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), while the remaining 110 posts, including Assistant Technical Officer, Deputy Technical Officer, Technical Officer, and Senior Technical Officer, will be filled through promotion.
The minister stated that the move is expected to modernize the functioning of state departments and improve implementation of e-governance initiatives. The recruitment process will provide new employment opportunities for qualified youth, particularly those holding bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science, Electronics, Telecommunication, Information Technology, and MCA.
According to the government, the creation of the IT cadre aims to ensure efficient handling of technology-based administrative tasks, stronger digital infrastructure, and better delivery of public services. Officials believe that having dedicated technical professionals within departments will significantly enhance transparency, data management, and service delivery mechanisms.
Highlighting additional decisions taken by the cabinet, Minister Chowdhury said that 445 vacant posts across different state government departments will be filled in the coming days. He also announced that from the next academic session, classes in newly established Ayurvedic and Homeopathic medical colleges will commence, strengthening the state’s medical education infrastructure.
The cabinet also approved recruitment of 110 Veterinary Officers under the Animal Husbandry Department through TPSC. In addition, recruitment for 100 Multi-Purpose Workers (MPWs), including 50 male and 50 female workers was also approved to strengthen grassroots-level veterinary and animal healthcare services.
The government emphasized that these recruitment drives are part of a broader effort to create employment avenues and improve administrative efficiency. The launch of the IT cadre, in particular, is expected to play a transformative role in digital transformation and technology-driven governance in Tripura.
