The Government of Tripura marked the third year of the Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana (MJBY) with a major beneficiary interaction and assistance distribution programme held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala. The event was attended by Chief Minister Manik Saha, Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy and Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, along with senior officials and beneficiaries from different parts of the state.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Manik Saha said that nearly 4,100 beneficiaries across various categories will receive assistance under the third phase of the scheme this year. He expressed satisfaction over the expanding impact of the programme and reiterated that Tripura has historically been a land of composite culture where tribal and non-tribal communities have lived together in harmony. He observed that earlier, adequate initiatives were not taken to preserve and promote the language, culture and socio-economic development of the tribal population, but the present double-engine government has adopted comprehensive measures to safeguard tribal heritage and improve living standards. He described the Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana as a flagship initiative aimed at empowering enterprising tribal citizens and making them self-reliant.
Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma, while interacting directly with the beneficiaries, stated that the true success of a government scheme lies in its effective implementation at the grassroots level. Listening to the experiences of beneficiaries once again proved that when government initiatives reach people in real terms, their purpose is fulfilled. He emphasized that the government is committed not merely to planning but to ensuring practical execution for the holistic development and empowerment of the tribal community.
The programme reflected the government’s broader vision of inclusive development, focusing on standing beside the people and addressing their genuine needs. Under the Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana, financial assistance and institutional support are being extended to help tribal families undertake income-generating activities and strengthen their livelihoods.
Notably, the Mukhyamantri Janajati Bikash Yojana has been implemented since 2023 to empower Scheduled Tribe families across Tripura by providing a one-time financial assistance of Rs.25,000 for income-generating activities. The benefit is transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer. Eligible applicants must be holders of AAY, PHH or PG ration cards and should not have received more than Rs.20,000 under ARDD benefits during the last three financial years. Applications can be submitted online or by visiting the nearest Sub-Divisional Tribal Welfare Office. As the scheme enters its third year, the state government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that development reaches every section of society, particularly the tribal population, thereby strengthening Tripura’s inclusive and culturally rich social fabric.
