In a shocking incident of alleged intra-party violence, former Charilam Mandal president Rajkumar Debnath was reportedly attacked by members of his own political party on Thursday following a dispute over the allocation of a Public Works Department (PWD) contract in Bishramganj.

According to allegations, the attack was led by the current Mandal president Tapas Das, along with several associates. The incident reportedly took place in connection with the distribution of a contractor’s work order under the PWD in the Bishramganj area.

Sources claimed that Rajkumar Debnath sustained injuries in the assault and had to flee to the Bishramganj Police Station to save his life. From there, he was shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. His current condition has not been officially disclosed.

The clash is said to be the result of a prolonged internal conflict between two factions of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the sharing of local contracts and alleged brokerage activities related to land dealings and government work allotments. Tensions between the rival groups have reportedly been simmering for a considerable period.

Senior party leaders, including former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and current Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, had earlier cautioned local leaders against factional infighting and warned of strict action. However, despite repeated warnings, the dispute appears to have escalated into violence.

The incident has triggered political ripples in the region, raising questions about internal discipline and the handling of government project allocations at the grassroots level. Police are reportedly examining the matter, though no official statement has yet been issued regarding arrests or formal complaints.

Further developments are awaited as investigations continue.
