The Agartala Municipal Corporation has taken a major initiative to redevelop and reconstruct the historic Howrah Market near Battala in Agartala. The civic body is preparing a comprehensive plan to demolish the existing old structure and build a modern, well-planned market complex that will provide better facilities for traders as well as customers.

Howrah Market, one of the busiest commercial hubs in the city, has been facing issues of congestion, poor infrastructure, and lack of proper amenities for a long time. According to municipal sources, the proposed reconstruction aims to transform the area into a more organized and hygienic marketplace with improved parking, sanitation, and business spaces.

Meanwhile, an important development related to the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Agartala has drawn public attention. Recently, questions were raised on social media regarding the party office of Mayor Deepak Majumder, who is also the MLA from Ramnagar constituency. Allegations surfaced that a platform in front of the office had encroached upon the footpath.

Taking note of the concerns and in line with the city-wide campaign to free pavements from illegal occupation, Mayor Deepak Majumder ordered the immediate removal of the platform in front of his own party office. The structure was subsequently dismantled as per his instructions.

This move has been widely appreciated by different sections of society. Political observers and citizens have described the action as a strong and positive example of ethical leadership. By allowing removal of the encroachment despite personal and political association, the Mayor has demonstrated that the law is equal for all and that public interest comes first.

With strict measures against illegal occupation and ambitious redevelopment projects like the Howrah Market reconstruction, the Agartala Municipal Corporation is signaling its commitment toward planned urban development and better civic management in the capital city.
