Amid rising political tension over the formation of Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Bishramganj has firmly denied allegations made by TIPRA Motha chief Pradyot Kishore Debbarman that land belonging to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has been encroached upon.

Addressing the media after a crucial meeting held at Bishramganj Dak Bungalow, the SDM clarified that the newly constituted Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat has been formed by incorporating three existing Gram Panchayats and that no ADC land has been taken in the process. According to the SDM, all procedures followed in the demarcation of boundaries were completely legal and in accordance with government norms.

Responding to complaints raised by the TIPRA Motha party regarding alleged illegal inclusion of ADC areas within the Nagar Panchayat limits, the SDM assured that the matter would be re-examined thoroughly. He stated that official maps from the Settlement Department would be brought and cross-checked with ADC maps to verify whether any ADC territory had mistakenly been included in the Nagar Panchayat area.

However, Pradyot Kishore Debbarman strongly contested the administration’s stand. Speaking to journalists after the meeting, he claimed that TIPRA Motha possesses the 1994 settlement map, which clearly shows discrepancies in the current boundary demarcation. He asserted that based on this map, the party would approach the court for legal remedy.

Debbarman further alleged that claims of people from the extended areas participating in earlier Gram Panchayat elections were themselves illegal. “Tiprasa people know where their land lies,” he said, reiterating his party’s firm opposition to any move that affects ADC territories.

The meeting was attended by several prominent leaders including the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of TTAADC Purna Chandra Jamatia, the MLA of Charilam constituency and senior leaders of TIPRA Motha. Despite detailed discussions, no concrete decision could be reached.

Meanwhile, in view of the sensitive nature of the issue, heavy security has been deployed across Bishramganj market and adjoining areas to prevent any untoward incident.

The controversy over the boundary of Bishramganj Nagar Panchayat continues to simmer, with both the administration and TIPRA Motha holding firmly to their respective positions. Further developments are expected once the official verification of maps is completed.
