With the crucial ADC election barely two month away, ‘Tipra Motha’ supremo Pradyot Kishore has started resorting to his traditional divisive politics based on exclusionary ethno-centrism. Sensing an erosion in his party’s base ahead of election because of the corrupt misrule of his party in ADC , as manifested in collective plunder of the exchequer Pradyot is trying to whip up ethnic emotions to retain his stranglehold on the autonomous council.
Appearing in a social media live Pradyot reiterated his demand of land right for indigenous people, Roman script for ‘Kokborok’ and opposition to Bisramganj area being notified as a ‘Nagar Panchayat’, conveniently forgetting that there is no opposition to land rights of indigenous people provided it is legally valid and that introducing Roman script will mean permanent banishment of ‘Kokboork’ from constitutional recognition. Besides, notification of Bisramganj as Nagar Panchayat will lead to lot of development of the area with appropriate representation of indigenous people also.
Pradyot also accused the present state government of hatching conspiracy to destroy the ADC , stating that indigenous people are currently deprived of their rights-how and when it was never mentioned by him . Apart from this , as part of his divisive politics Pradyot made a crude and ridiculous attempt to create divisions in the ruling BJP in an indirect indictment of chief minister Dr Manik Saha. He asserted that the indigenous people were far better during the tenure of Biplab Deb as chief minister and he also has cordial relations with BJP leaders such as minister Ratan Lal Nath and former MP Pratima Bhowmik. He also deplored the failure of BJP to take any action against a section of tribal leaders of the party who have been castigating the ‘Tipra Motha’.
Sources in BJP desisted from making any comment on Pradyot’s social media statement , saying the matter will be appropriately responded to by higher echelons of the party. “Realising that his position in the ADC area is weakening , Pradyot is trying to consolidate his position, nothing else, before the election; we will fight his party politically without resorting to bluster and rhetoric” said a senior leader of the party, refusing to be quoted.
