Salary Delay Triggers Resentment Among Tripura University Employees

A major discontent has surfaced among the employees of Tripura University as salaries for the month of January 2026 have not yet been disbursed, even after the beginning of February. The delay has affected both teaching and non-teaching staff of the university, creating serious concern within the campus community.

According to employees, all other Central Universities across the country have already released salaries for January, including those in the entire North Eastern region. Tripura University, however, remains an exception, leaving its staff without their monthly pay.

What has surprised many is that, until recently, salaries of Tripura University employees were regularly credited on the last working day of every month. The sudden deviation from this long-standing practice has raised questions among faculty members and administrative staff.

Several employees have expressed frustration over the situation and have pointed fingers at the office of the Drawing and Disbursement Officer (DDO) of the university. They allege that inefficiency and lack of administrative competence in the DDO’s office are responsible for the unprecedented delay.

Staff members claim that the newly appointed DDO has failed to process salary bills on time, reflecting what they describe as inadequate experience and poor handling of financial procedures. Some employees have also informally alleged that the official enjoys undue favor from the university administration, a charge that could not be independently verified.

As of now, there has been no official statement from Tripura University authorities explaining the reason behind the delay. Employees are anxiously awaiting clarification and immediate release of their pending salaries.

The ongoing issue has not only created financial hardship for many staff members but has also affected the overall working atmosphere in the university. Employees have urged the administration to intervene urgently and ensure that such lapses do not recur in the future.

Further developments are awaited as the university administration is expected to respond to the growing unrest.
