In a series of major anti-narcotics operations across Tripura, police and security forces achieved significant success in curbing illegal cannabis activities on Monday.
Acting on specific intelligence, Sidai police conducted a raid at a rubber plantation near Kalabagan area. The operation was carried out jointly by the Special Task Force (STF), Narcotics Department, CRPF, BSF, along with the Sub-Divisional Police Officer and Sidai police personnel. During the raid, security forces recovered a large quantity of dry and semi-dry cannabis. Six individuals were detained from the spot for their alleged involvement in storing and trafficking the contraband. All the accused have been kept in police custody and are scheduled to be produced before the court today for further legal proceedings.
In another major operation, Sonamura police launched an extensive anti-ganja drive in the Dulunga area under Sonamura police station. Under the leadership of Officer-in-Charge Tapas Das, police, along with TSR and BSF personnel, conducted a coordinated raid and destroyed nearly five lakh fully grown cannabis plants cultivated illegally on forest department land. According to police officials, the cannabis plantations were set up by illegal growers in remote areas, taking advantage of forest cover. The entire crop was cut down and destroyed on the spot as part of the operation.
OC Tapas Das stated that such drives would continue in the coming days to eliminate illegal drug cultivation and trafficking from the region. He also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found involved in such unlawful activities.
These back-to-back successful operations highlight the ongoing commitment of Tripura Police and security agencies to fight the menace of narcotics and ensure a drug-free society.
