MMD College, Sabroom celebrates "World Wetlands Conservation Day"

The ‘World Wetland Conservation Day; an important occasion on rapid disappearance of wetland across the world as a price for development and human avarice, comes and goes annually without any one taking notice. But the present Michael Madhusudan Datta (MMD) college authority is alive to the importance of the day and observed this today in association with the PM Shri Girls HS school through a programme.

The chief guest was Professor Dr. Anupam Guha, the Principal of MMD College, Sabroom. The event was presided over by the Assistant Head Master of the school, Ranjan Debnath along with Janang Mog, School Inspector, Rupaichhari, teachers and students.During the program, Dr. Anupam Guha stated that on this day in 1971, the ‘Ramsar Convention’ on Wetlands was signed in Ramsar city, Iran. The main goal of this day is to raise awareness about the importance and conservation of wetlands. Wetlands play a vital role in maintaining environmental balance, conserving biodiversity, and combating climate change. The theme for this year is "Wetlands and Traditional Knowledge: Celebrating Cultural Heritage." This theme explores the deep connection between wetlands and cultural practices, traditions, and knowledge systems worldwide.

Guests present at the event urged all attendees, especially students, to be conscious of environmental conservation and to focus on preserving natural resources. The program witnessed enthusiastic participation and keen interest from the students.
