Ratan Lal Nath intrigues people with poster on residential building , it reads ‘My House is Drug Free’

Veteran non-left political leader of the state Ratan Lal Nath who is also currently the seniormost member of the state cabinet and minister for agriculture and power department continues to be a man of intriguing humour. Nath who is perhaps the most famous elected representative of people , having won from the Mohanpur assembly constituency seven consecutive times between 1993 and 2023 , is still a vibrant and hyper-active man with a jest from life . This despite the fact that he is close to be an octogenarian within next one and half year.

He sprang a surprise this morning yet again with a written announcement on the front wall of his residence in Krishna Nagar close to his gate . The writing silently makes a powerful announcement : My House is Drug Free. What this in real term means is not clear but viewers of the announcement is intrigued because Ratan Lal Nath is universally known to be a confirmed teetotaller who always keep far away from anything toxic. The veteran minister made himself incommunicado, possibly preoccupied with Sunday tour of his constituency but people continue to be baffled.

One possible explanation of the bizarre phenomenon is that recently there have been a series of police raids in his Mohanpur constituency and seizure of major drug hauls. Ratan Lal was presumably in the dark about the raids and he took this as an affront. “The writing on the wall of his house in Krishna Nagar area of Agartala may be his novel way of gentle protest against perceived interference in his constituency behind his back but things can be gauged once he comes out with an appropriate response to what happened in his constituency and ,may be, some of his followers” said a follower of the minister from Mohanpur.
