Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership had made the word “Modi” synonymous with development, asserting that the benefits of growth and governance reforms had reached every corner of the country, including Tripura.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone of a modern building for Vidyasagar Bazar at Belonia, Saha said the state government was working in alignment with the Centre to accelerate development and improve public service delivery. He said the Vidyasagar Bazar project, to be built at a cost of over Rs 21 crore, was expected to strengthen local trade and boost economic activity in the area.

The chief minister said development projects worth about Rs 58 crore were taken up on the day, including inaugurations of works valued at around Rs 18 crore and foundation stones laid for projects worth nearly Rs 40 crore.

Highlighting governance reforms, Saha said Tripura had earned national recognition and secured the top position in deregulation. He claimed the state had received 347 awards in recent years, reflecting accountability and effective implementation of policies.

On social initiatives, he said de-addiction centres would be set up in every district, with budgetary provisions of about Rs 20 crore for each centre. Referring to education, Saha said teacher recruitment would strictly follow merit through TET and stressed that quality must not be compromised. He also said Tripura had emerged as the country’s third fully literate state after Mizoram and Goa.
