In a strong continuation of its intensified campaign against narcotics, law enforcement agencies carried out the third consecutive anti-drug strategic operation in West Tripura, resulting in the destruction of a huge quantity of illegal cannabis cultivation.

On 31 January 2026 early morning, a large-scale cannabis plant destruction drive was conducted at 30 Garh and Noagaon areas under Sidhai Police Station, jointly by West Tripura District Police, Sidhai Sub-Division Police, 124 Battalion CRPF, 104 Battalion BSF, and TSR personnel, with active participation of both men and women personnel.

The operation was carried out in the presence of the Additional Superintendent of Police, West (Rural), the SDPO, Mohanpur, the Officer-in-Charge of Sidhai Police Station, along with other senior officers of Sidhai PS and officers from various Central Armed Police Forces.

During the coordinated operation, approximately 1.5 lakh cannabis plants, both mature and premature, were destroyed and burnt on the spot. The illegal cultivation was spread across around 45 to 50 plots of land, indicating a well-organised and large-scale attempt at narcotics production.

Nearly 250 personnel, including police and CAPF staff, were deployed to ensure the operation was conducted effectively, securely, and without resistance. The estimated market value of the destroyed cannabis plants is around Rs.5 crore, dealing a major blow to the illegal drug network operating in the region.

Police officials stated that such sustained and strategic actions reflect the administration’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs and reaffirm their commitment to protecting youth and society from the menace of narcotics. More intensified operations are expected in vulnerable and identified pockets in the coming days as part of the ongoing anti-drug drive across Tripura.
