In a major crackdown on the narcotics network in North Tripura, a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and the Border Security Force (BSF) carried out a surprise raid at the residence of notorious drug peddler Hafiz Miyan at Yakubnagar under Dharmanagar subdivision today.
During the operation, the joint forces recovered a large cache of incriminating items, including sharp weapons, cash amounting to nearly Rs.3 lakh, a currency counting machine, detailed account registers linked to the drug trade, and a substantial quantity of empty polythene packets used for packing narcotics. The seized materials clearly point towards the existence of an organized and well-funded drug trafficking operation being run from the premises.
However, the prime accused Hafiz Miya managed to flee before the security personnel could apprehend him. A massive search operation has since been launched in the surrounding areas, and law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts to track him down. Officials indicated that Hafiz Miyan has been on the radar of security agencies for a long time due to his alleged involvement in cross-border and local drug trafficking activities.
Senior officials stated that the joint operation was conducted following specific intelligence inputs and reaffirmed that such coordinated actions would continue to dismantle drug networks in the region. The seizure has been termed a significant success in the ongoing fight against the drug menace in North Tripura.
Further investigation is underway, and authorities have hinted that more arrests may follow as links and financial trails connected to the seized documents are being examined.
