Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman on Thursday said he believed in responding to political criticism with goodwill and asserted that he did not harbour hatred towards anyone in Tripura.

Debbarman was speaking at a programme organised by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council at Swami Vivekananda Maidan, where 161 electric rickshaws were distributed among unemployed youths to promote self-employment.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the event, Debbarman said he had affection for all sections of people in the state and had no intention of spreading hatred. Without naming any political party, he said certain political groups often made remarks guided by political interests. He said he preferred to respond to such criticism with goodwill and hoped to bring about positive change through that approach.

He said the e-rickshaw distribution programme was aimed at enhancing income opportunities for youths in ADC areas and creating sustainable livelihood options. Debbarman added that around 1,600 auto-rickshaws would be distributed in phases in the coming months under the same initiative.

The programme was attended by TTAADC Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia, Minister Brishaketu Debbarma, Executive Member Kamal Kalai, MLA Ranjit Debbarma and other senior ADC officials. Debbarman’s mother, Bibhu Kumari Devi, was also present.

Debbarman said the ADC administration had undertaken several development initiatives to strengthen livelihoods in rural and tribal areas. He dismissed claims that development work was not taking place in ADC areas, calling them misleading. He said plans were underway to set up cold storage facilities for farmers, expand tourism-linked employment and provide passenger vehicles to improve connectivity and livelihood opportunities.
