Bangladesh: innocent Hindu murdered by ‘Momin’ land mafia, temple looted

The targeted Hindu killing on one excuse or the other is continuing in Bangladesh with a vengeance as the ‘Momin’ land mafia and looters, emboldened under the anarchic rule of Md Yunus, continue their operations in different parts of the country. Within a few days of the roasting alive of poor Hindu youth Chanchal Kumar Bhowmik (21) without any rhyme or reason near Dhaka, an aged Hindu barber was murdered in broad daylight by a gang of ‘Momin’ land mafias in Kurigram district under Rangpur division on January 26. There is as yet no police action even though there were many eyewitnesses to the gory killing.

Sources from Bangladesh said that on January 26 morning a gang of land mafias and miscreants led by Ashraf Ali and Abed Ali of Malsabari village materialised near the house of poor barber Madhu Shil (62) in Rajarhat village and found him planting trees in his small plot of land in front of his house. The duo and their cronies dragged Madhu Shil away while threatening him to leave his homestead and small plot of land. Even as Madhu Shil mildly protested Ashram and Abed rained blows on Madhu and finally struck his head on the floor of a pucca tube well, inflicting severe head injuries. A bleeding Madhu Shil was taken to Kurigram (Sadar) hospital by fellow Hindus but was declared ‘brought dead’ by the doctor on duty. The unprovoked killing of Madhu Shil has cast a shadow of fear and panic among the few Hindu families living in the Rajarhat village.

Apart from this, the iconoclastic frenzy that gripped the Bangladeshi hellscape since August 5 2024 is also gaining in momentum as a Hindu temple in communally sensitive Nasir Nagar village under Brahmanbaria district was looted last night by a gang of ‘Momin’ criminals masquerading as zealots. Sources said that last night a gang of ‘Momins’ broke into the Hindu temple and got away with eight images of deities made of costly black stones and six others made of brass from five rooms . This came to notice early in the morning today as a priest of the temple Adinath Das Shishya woke up to open the main gate of the temple . He found doors of five chambers broken and saw how the images of deities, brass-made utensils and other costly gold ornaments and Rs 20 thousand in cash had been taken away by the ‘Momin’ thieves. A police case has been filed with the Nasir Nagar police station but, as always, any remedial action is unlikely. “What is amazing is that the crimes that had begun in Medina from the year 622 AD has been continuing across centuries all over the world and up to Bangladesh on the basis of the precedent set in the deserts; unfortunately we continue to be the victims in our ancestral land where the ‘Momins’ appeared many centuries later , from the 13th century historically” said a local Hindu intellectual who gave the detailed information.
