Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region and Communications, Jyotiraditya Scindia, today inaugurated the ambitious Rs. 450 crore Matabari Tourism Circuit project by laying its foundation stone at Narkel Kunja near the scenic Dumboor Lake, marking the culmination of his three-day visit to Tripura.

The foundation-laying ceremony was held at the Dumboor Lake area, a region of immense religious, ecological, and tourism significance. The Matabari Tourism Circuit project is aimed at transforming the Matabari–Dumboor Lake belt into a major spiritual and eco-tourism destination, with a focus on infrastructure development, visitor amenities, connectivity, and livelihood generation for local communities.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha joined the programme virtually and expressed gratitude to the Union Government for its continued support towards the state’s development. He highlighted that the project would significantly boost tourism, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the local economy, especially in remote and tribal-dominated areas.

Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury was present at the venue and termed the project a game changer for Tripura’s tourism sector. He said the Matabari Tourism Circuit would place Tripura prominently on the national tourism map by integrating religious heritage with natural beauty.

Addressing the gathering, Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that development projects worth nearly Rs.750 crore have been planned and approved for Tripura under various central schemes. He reiterated the Centre’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure growth, tourism development, and overall socio-economic progress in the northeastern states.

The Union Minister also emphasized that tourism-led development would play a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage while ensuring sustainable growth. He noted that projects like the Matabari Tourism Circuit align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making the Northeast a growth engine of the country.

The Matabari Temple, dedicated to Goddess Tripura Sundari, is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and attracts thousands of devotees annually. With the new tourism circuit, the area is expected to witness a significant rise in tourist footfall, improved facilities, and enhanced connectivity, benefiting both pilgrims and nature lovers alike.
