A massive show of strength by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was witnessed on Sunday at Shuknachhara under South Taibandal, within the Kathalia–Mirza–Rajapur ADC area, as the party stepped up its campaign ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

Addressing the large gathering, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha, without naming anyone directly, strongly attacked the Tipra Motha Party and its leadership, accusing them of indulging in divisive politics by creating emotional narratives among the tribal and non-tribal communities of Tripura for personal political gain. He reiterated his firm stand that politics based on emotion, division and muscle power has no place in present-day Tripura.

Throwing a direct challenge, the Chief Minister asserted that in the upcoming ADC elections, all 28 seats of the TTAADC would come in favour of the BJP. He said the people of Tripura now want development, not conflict-driven politics. Dr Saha alleged that since coming to power in the ADC, Tipra Motha has failed to deliver any meaningful development for the indigenous people, and instead accused the party of rampant misuse and loot of government funds meant for welfare schemes.

Speaking specifically to the Janajati brothers and sisters at the BJP-organised rally, the Chief Minister dared the Tipra Motha leadership to face the voters with a report card of their performance before the ADC polls. He warned leaders of the party against resorting to road blockades and disruptive tactics, stating that such actions only harm common people and hinder development.

Earlier, on January 25, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha publicly asked the BJP’s ally-turned-rival, the Tipra Motha Party, to focus on governance and performance rather than, as he put it, fuelling communal sentiments ahead of the TTAADC elections. He made it clear that accountability and development would be the central issues before the electorate.

During the programme, Dr Saha also categorically stated that Roman script would not be given any official recognition in Tripura, making the government’s position on the issue absolutely clear.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister interacted with respected Janajati Samajpatis at Nalchar Block in Sepahijala district. On that occasion, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown the highest respect to the indigenous communities of Tripura through continuous developmental initiatives. Dr Saha shared details of the state government’s efforts aimed at inclusive and holistic development of Janajati brothers and sisters, reaffirming the BJP government’s commitment to their dignity, rights and progress.

The rally at South Taibandal marked a significant political statement by the BJP as the battle for control of the TTAADC intensifies, with development versus divisive politics emerging as the central narrative.
