Rajib Saha, the Mandal President of BJP from Barjala, has been detained at the Airport Police Station following serious allegations of land mafia activities. Senior police officials have been continuously interrogating him for several hours in connection with the case.
According to sources, Rajib Saha had earlier courted controversy ahead of Durga Puja when he allegedly tore down posters of a senior leader from his own party and replaced them with his own posters at various road crossings, triggering internal discontent within the party.
The present allegations against him are grave. It is alleged that a well-organized land-grabbing syndicate has been operating under his patronage across large areas including Lichubagan, Borjala, Natunnagar and Airport localities. The complaint claims that vast stretches of khas land, canals, water bodies (bil), and other abandoned government properties were illegally occupied. Fake documents were allegedly prepared to sell these government lands to unsuspecting buyers.
Sources further allege that the syndicate extorted commissions even from ordinary land transactions between private individuals. Failure to pay such commissions reportedly resulted in harassment and intimidation of common citizens. It is also alleged that these illegal activities were carried out by misusing the name and political position associated with the BJP.
Police are now probing the role of Rajib Saha and other members of the alleged nexus involved in illegal land transfers. Further action is expected based on the outcome of the ongoing interrogation.
