A serious controversy has erupted in Tripura’s Raishyabari police station area after a police vehicle met with a horrific accident while allegedly transporting two tourists who were unlawfully detained. The incident has triggered widespread public outrage, with grave allegations of police misconduct, drunk driving by a police officer, and inhuman treatment of injured tourists.

According to local sources, the incident occurred when police personnel from Raishyabari police station detained a tom-tom driver and two local tourists allegedly for refusing to pay money. The detainees were being taken from Narikel Kunj towards Raishyabari police station when the police vehicle met with a severe accident.

It is alleged that in the absence of the regular driver, a Sub-Inspector of police, reportedly in an intoxicated condition, was driving the vehicle. Due to negligent driving, the police vehicle lost control and overturned beneath a bridge in the Raishyabari area.

As a result of the accident, two tourists, Akash Baishya, aged 22, and Gautam Roy, aged 27, sustained serious injuries. Shockingly, instead of arranging immediate medical assistance, police officers and staff present at the scene allegedly left the injured tourists behind and returned, abandoning them at the accident site.

Local residents later intervened and arranged for the injured to be taken first to Gandacherra hospital and subsequently referred to Udaipur District Hospital. It has further been alleged that at Gandacherra hospital, despite severe head injuries and continuous bleeding, the injured were referred to Udaipur without adequate initial treatment.

The incident has sparked intense anger among local residents, who have questioned the sense of responsibility, professionalism, and humanity of the police. Strong reactions have emerged against what is being described as inhuman behavior towards tourists, illegal detention, and gross negligence by law enforcement officials.

The allegations have put the Raishyabari police under serious scrutiny, and demands are growing for a high-level inquiry and strict action against those responsible to restore public trust and ensure the safety and dignity of tourists in the region. Where will the people of Gandacherra go? asks the helpless sister of an injured youth. She has alleged that due to police illegal action, her brother along with two others met with an accident.
