The traditional Netaji birth anniversary celebration of Neraji Subhas Vidyaniketan came off today in a lacklustre manner with limited number of tableaus because of the ‘Saraswati Puja’ . The chief minister Dr Manik Saha and BJP state president Rajeev Bhattacharjee who is also a member of the school managing committee attended the opening programme as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

As announced by the school authority earlier the students in colourful attire conforming to the theme of the tableaus they will take out gathered on the school ground to listen to the address of the chief minister. In his speech the chief minister briefly dwelt on the importance of the day of Netaji birth day anniversary and his contribution to our freedom struggle . Besdides, brief speeches of the headmaster of the school and that of Rajieev Bhattacharjee had preceded the chief minister’s address .

Around 9-45 the rally with colourfully decorated tableaus on various social and national themes took to the streets and moved through the town . A large number of people standing on both sides of the road watched and enjoyed the tableaus . However, the procession ended earlier than usual because of the preoccupation of the students and teachers with the ‘Saraswati Puja’ in the schools.

Apart from this, the ‘Saraswati Puja’ (worship of the Goddess of learning and wisdom) came off today in all the schools and colleges and households across the state. The students and teachers in traditional dresses reached schools and colleges to take part in the rituals , offer ‘Anjali’ (ritual offering of reverence through chanting of ‘Mantras’) . There were also arrangements for distribution of ‘Prasadam ‘at the end of the ‘Puja’. All this came off smoothly and in sacred manner without any untoward incidents marring the festivities.
