The officials and employees of the department of Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA) were today administered oath of voting in all elections in a solemn ceremony held in the office premises. This oath was administered by the director of ICA Bimbisar Bhattacharjee . This year the theme of the voters day observance is ‘My India , My Vote’. An official press note issued by the ICA department said that the initiative to observe the ‘Voters Day’ was taken today as there will be official holidays between January 23 and 26 even though the official ‘Voters Day’ programme will be centrally observed at the state level on January 25.
Addressing the gathering the director of ICA Bimbisar Bhattacharjee said that the Indian constitution , the longest and most detailed in the world, had come into effect from January 26 1950. “Our hallowed constitution has given us the voting right on the basis of universal adult suffrage; the day of January 25 is observed as the Voters Day and this is a solemn occasion to pledge ourselves to compliance with constitutionality in all walks of life and we must remain firm in our resolve” said director Bimbisar Bhattacharjee. The programme was also attended by deputy directors Jaidip Debbarma and Rajat Kanti Das.
