Tripura Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Tuesday said the state has witnessed significant development under the BJP-led government, while alleging that the Left Front failed to ensure growth during its 35 years in power.

Addressing reporters on the occasion of Statehood Day, Nath said the development trajectory of a state is reflected in its budgetary allocations. He claimed that Tripura’s progress under the present dispensation is evident from the steady rise in budget size over the years.

Referring to historical data, the minister said the state’s budget stood at Rs 9.47 crore in 1963-64 when the population was around 11.42 lakh. He said the budget increased to Rs 43.60 crore in 1972-73 with a population of about 15 lakh, while the budget for 2025-26 has risen to Rs 32,423.54 crore.

Nath claimed that during 35 years of Left Front rule, the total budgetary expenditure amounted to around Rs 1.35 lakh crore, whereas in the last eight years under the BJP government, the cumulative budget has crossed Rs 1.87 lakh crore.

He also cited NITI Aayog reports, stating that Tripura has emerged as a top-performing state in several development indicators, including sustainable consumption, ecosystem protection, poverty reduction, health, education and sanitation.

“These achievements reflect our full commitment to the people on Statehood Day,” the minister said.
