Night Football : novel way of celebrating 48th ‘Kokborok’ language day, great enthusiasm among all sections of people

Leaving aside the traditional routine , the Santir Bazar subdivisional administration devised novel way of celebrating the 48th ‘Kokborok’ language day : organising a night football tournament. There was also a brief cultural programme in which youngsters from both the tribal and non-tribal communities took part enthusiastically to the delight of the audience. The minister for co-operative department, young Shukla Charan Noatia who was present as the chief guest lit the holy lamp to mark the beginning of the festivity and celebration and it got enlivened by the ‘Hoza Giri’ dance performance of the Reang tribal girls of the area on the Dronjay Chaudhury Para high school ground . A large number of tribal people turned up as audience and enjoyed the programme.
Sources from Santir Bazar said that the cultural programme was followed by the night football tournament in which six teams comprising mostly tribal players took part in matches of short duration . Finally a local team emerged as the champions and secured 1st prize while other teams including the runner-up team were given away other gifts and prizes. The Jolaibari MLA and minister for co-operative Shukla Charan Noatia had addressed the programme calling for peace and harmony as also for development of the ‘Kokborok’ language , asking the speakers and non-speakers to honour the language and explaining the importance of the day. He also called upon the audience to fight for making Tripura an ‘addiction free’ state sooner rather than later.
The programme was also attended by southern Zilla Parishad president Dipak Datta, MLA Pramod Reang, Bogafa panchayat samity chairman Krishna Reeang, Nagar Panchayat chief Swapna Baidya, vice chairman Satyabrata Saha, ADM (south) Hemanta Debbarma, social activists Dibas Bhowmik , Manoj Pal and other eminent citizens.
