Agartala going deep down into hell as ‘Log Bhog’ smart city project works create massive chaos, AMC in deep sleep

The ‘Log Bhog smart city’ of Agartala, as claimed even a few years ago by an ignoramus politician, is dipping deep into total chaos because of the totally messy condition created all over the town. While the entire AMC authority including the Mayor sleep over the issue , the residents of Agartala run from pillar to post to have their grievances in the form of damaged water supply, electricity and gas lines redressed, the concerned departments as well as the AMC authority including the Mayor either pretend that everything is all right or feign inability to do anything as the chaotic situation is to be set right by the so-called smart city project authority.
Sources in AMC and people suffering from the problems said that it was around one and half year ago that the work to improve the drainage system of Agartala and stop water-logging in the town had been awarded to three fraudster contractors from Delhi and UP , presumably in lieu of hefty commission, and these outsider fraudsters engaged at least 10/12 local sub-contractors. But this work crucial to public interest has been going on at snail’s pace in an extremely unscientific manner and the whole city including outlying areas within the notified corporation has been reduced to an augean stable with narrowed roads , chaotic traffic jams , encroachment and heaps of mud scattered almost on all important road-corners. “None in the AMC is aware of what is happening and why, not even the Mayor and , interestingly the names of outsider fraudster contractors and local sub-contractors , their names, addresses and even phone numbers are also unknown to AMC authority or common people ;so when people come to complain everybody in AMC gets busy to pass the buck on smart city authority who can not even be contacted by common people ;this is nothing but total wastage of central funds as the entire project is centrally funded” said an important official of the AMC .
He said that the plan and designing of the work has also totally flopped as originally it was designed to increase the depth of the drains to pave the way for easy movement of water, specially during monsoon months and stop water logging but the way the work is being executed it will create more problems than it will solve. “The work is being executed in such a shoddy manner that major roads have narrowed down with heaps of earth piled on road corners and incomplete nature of the work has spoiled main important roads in the town like Kaman Chaumuhuni, Post Office Chaumuhuni, Surjya Chaumuhuni and their arterial pathways leading to important places like Gol Bazar market, RMS Chaumuhuni centre, Netaji Chaumuhuni and other areas that have been encroached by shop-keepers or both sides and by political hangers-on by paying weekly ‘Hafta’ to local elected representatives, causing jams and problems for pedestrians as well as vehicles ” said sources . The people do not even know where to complain.
The citizens who suffer because of snapped and damaged water supply, gas and electrical connections get no redress as concerned departments shirk responsibility by passing the buck on Smart City project. In the case of gas and electricity the departments take a modicum of action for fear of death and destruction by fire but the Water Resource department do nothing and people have to fend for themselves . Recently a rich business man near Post Office Chaumuhuni area had to cough up Rs 16 thousand to have his water supply connection repaired privately even though it had been damaged by the shoddy work being implemented in the name of smart city project. Venting his frustration over the totally anarchical condition created by the work in many parts of the town since early last year ,a senior citizen said “the Mayor of AMC , and corporators will do nothing , the departments can not do anything either ; it is only senior bureaucrats at the top who can save this city and its residents provided they intervene strongly, otherwise there is no hope”.
