A deeply disturbing incident highlighting alleged social and moral degradation has surfaced from the North Chebri area under Khowai district, triggering widespread anger and condemnation among local residents.According to allegations made by a widow from the area, a man identified as Anukul Pal had been maintaining an illegal physical relationship with her for nearly one and a half years by exploiting her vulnerable condition. The woman alleged that as a result of this relationship, she became pregnant. Over the last fifteen days, Anukul Pal reportedly subjected her to continuous mental pressure and coercion to terminate the pregnancy.The widow further alleged that under intense psychological pressure, she was forced to consume abortion-inducing tablets provided by Anukul Pal. After consuming the medication, her health deteriorated rapidly, and she became seriously ill. Eventually, she was compelled to seek medical help and was admitted to the Chebri Primary Health Centre.Initially, the woman reportedly concealed the full facts from the attending doctors. However, based on her physical condition, the medical staff grew suspicious and conducted medical examinations, which confirmed that she was pregnant. Shortly thereafter, the woman delivered a stillborn child.As news of the incident spread, strong resentment erupted across the North Chebri area. Local residents expressed intense anger against Anukul Pal and began searching for him from yesterday, though he is currently absconding. The people of the area alleged that Anukul Pal is a habitual offender and has allegedly ruined the lives of several other women through similar illicit relationships.

Enraged residents stated that such a person with alleged immoral and inhuman conduct should not be allowed to remain in society. The widow also claimed that, out of fear and helplessness, she buried the stillborn child in a pit without informing anyone.This rare and horrific incident has sent shockwaves through the locality, with people terming it a blot on society. There is growing public demand for strict legal action, and residents are urging the police administration to take suo motu cognisance of the matter and register a case against the accused to ensure justice and to safeguard social morality.
