The opposition CPI (M) has taken strong exception to repeated attempts by the Gandacherra subdivisional administration to demolish its party office in the town through earth-cutting by a bull-dozer in front of it . The party unit in Gandacherra has threatened to move court unless the SDM Gandacherra Chandrajay Reang stops his arbitrary and illegal bid to destroy the party office.
Giving details of the background in which two consecutive attempts had been made yesterday by the SDM Gandacherra to cut earth in front of the office compound, the CPI (M) sources from Gandacherra said that shortly after coming to power in the year 2018 the local BJP leadership in Gandacherra had made an attempt to forcibly occupy the office of the pro-CPI (M) Tripura Employees Co-ordination Committee (TECC) attached to the main office and launched repeated attacks on it besides trying to set it afire. The administration was also involved in this but the local CPI (M) leadership had moved the Dhalai district court and had obtained a stay order on the mischievous attempts of the BJP and the subdivisional adminlstration under its control.
But in complete defiance of the court order the SDM (Gandacherra) Chandrajay Reang and the BDO Prahlad Reang yesterday appeared in the TECC and CPI (M) office compound to oversee earth cutting work within the office compound by a bull-dozer that had been mobilised . After being informed of the matter the CPI (M) state committee member Lalit Mohan Tripura, subdivisional secretary Dhananjay Tripura and local leader Sushanta Hazari reached the spot and protested the illegal earth cutting work , citing the court order. Realising that the matter would create trouble the SDM Chandrajay Reang left the spot with the bull-dozer. But later the officers Chandrajay Reang and Prahlad Reang reappeared on the scene and launched the earth cutting work which was also resisted by the CPI IM) leaders , threatening to take up the matter with the high court.
The activities of Chandrajay Reang and Prahlad Reang have sparked an outrage in Gandacherra over the role of the subdivisional administration. Condemning the planned assault on the party and TECC offices in Gandacherra senior leaders of the CPI (M) said that under the BJP government ‘democracy is being made a matter of joke through partisan and illegal administrative action’. Senior party leaders said that if any fresh attempt is made to dismantle the CPI (M) and TECC office a writ petition will be filed in the high court.
