The Northeast BJP stalwart and Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived here this afternoon at 4-30 in the evening to a rousing welcome from senior local BNP leaders. He was received at the MBB airport by a team of BJP leaders headed by incumbent state party president Rajiv Bhattacharjee. From the airport Himanta , accompanied by his wife Rinki Sarma Bhuiyan , checked into Hotel Polo Tower and after a brief rest he and his wife headed for Udaipur to visit the temple of ‘Mata Tripureswari’.

According to his official programme released by the Assam government Himanta and his wife will offer ritual ‘Puja’ in the temple and will also do ‘Sandhya Arati’. He and wife are likely to be received at the temple by senior BJP leaders including the finance minister Pranjit Singha Roy who actually hails from Udaipur.

Having performed the rites and rituals in the temple Himanta and his wife Rinki will return to Agartala and will have a meeting and dinner in the residence of the chief minister Dr Manik Saha. It is however being speculated that in the course of meeting with chief minister Himanta may have informal discussions with other party leaders but there is no possibility of his meeting with leaders of ‘Tipra Motha’ the partner in the coalition government as of now. Himanta and his wife will return to Guwahati by flight tomorrow at 9-30 in the morning after overnight stay at Hotel Polo Tower.

Sources in BJP ruled out any political angle to Himanta’s visit or discussion with any other party. “He has arrived with wife purely on a personal visit and as far as we know there is no political dimension to it ; speculation over possibly of his meeting with any alliance partner over the upcoming election to ADC in April this year is not correct to the best of our knowledge” said a senior BJP leader here.
