Tourist footfalls in Tripura have registered a steep rise over the past few years and this includes tourists from foreign countries , specially countries from European continent. The European tourists generally prefer to visit India and its different states during the winter as it provides them a relief from the chilling winter cold back home and the charming ambience in the peninsular stretch of land.

In Tripura the tourist itinerary includes Sepahijala wildlife sanctuary , thirty kms to the south of capital city , Agartala. While the sanctuary and its animal and bird population impress all tourists , it is in the crucial sector of cleanliness that the sanctuary cuts a sorry figure because a large part of the sanctuary is littered with plastic, paper and bottle waste and garbages in corners.

A Dutch couple who had come all the way from Amsterdam today visited the nooks and corners of the sanctuary and were satisfied with the overall ambience and the sight of varied animals including primates and birds . Alex Cruff (50) and his wife Jeannette Cruff , originally residents of the Hague city in Netherland , had reached Agartala yesterday and checked into a good hotel. This morning the couple reached the Sepahijala wildlife sanctuary as their first point of visit . They derived great satisfaction from the sight of the birds and animals and the greenery but expressed slight disappointment over the filth they came across in different parts.

“ We are really happy to be here and , had we not come to this , we would have missed a very enervating view of nature from close range; tucked away in a corner of the state amidst a serene obscurity and lush greenery ,this wildlife sanctuary is near perfect but what looks disconcerting is the waste plastic bottles , papers and garbage in some corners ; the sanctuary needs higher level of daily cleaning to be perfect” said Alex and Jeannette . They said that they love India, its vast expanses of land, cultural diversity and food and they will visit all parts of the country before departing from the country. Before returning to Agartala Alex and Jeannettee said that the authority of the Sepahijala wildlife sanctuary should pay more attention to the matter of maintaining cleanliness.
